Questions we are asked
The ones that come up at the counter, answered at the length they deserve rather than in one line.
How much is a gel manicure?
Fifty-five dollars, sixty minutes, and that price includes taking off gel we applied. Gel from another salon adds eighteen dollars and twenty minutes, because we have not seen what is under it. Every price is on the price list and there is nothing under a 'from'.
Do I need an appointment?
We take walk-ins when there is a gap, and on a Saturday afternoon there usually is not. Booking online takes about a minute and it tells you the real length of what you are asking for.
How long will my appointment take?
Whatever the calendar said when you booked. Every service has a length on the price list and every add-on adds its own minutes, so a gel manicure with art on all ten nails is an hour and twenty-five minutes rather than an hour.
How long does a gel manicure last?
Two to three weeks on hands, four to six on toes. It does not chip like regular polish; it lifts at the cuticle or a side wall, and that is your signal to book rather than to pick.
Can I book a pedicure at any time you are open?
Not always. There are three pedicure chairs and six technicians, so a pedicure needs a chair free as well as a person free. If the calendar shows manicure times but no pedicure times at four o'clock on a Saturday, that is why.
Do you take card?
Card or cash at the counter when you are finished. Nothing is taken when you book.
What if I am running late?
We hold the slot for fifteen minutes. After that it depends on what is booked behind you — often we can do a shorter version at the shorter price. We will not run your appointment into somebody else's.
Can you take off a set from another salon?
Yes, and it is on the price list as its own line. Forty-five minutes for a full set of acrylic or hard gel. Bring it in rather than picking at it.
Do you do nails for children?
Under twelves have two short appointments of their own, in regular polish. No gel, no acrylic, no drill, no cuticle cutting, and a grown-up stays in the room.
Can a group of us come together?
Four or more is an enquiry rather than an online booking, because it needs several technicians at once — and if everybody wants a pedicure, there are only three chairs. Tell us the date and the number and we will tell you honestly what fits.
Are your files and buffers reused?
No. Files, buffers and wooden sticks are single use and go in the bin in front of you. Steel is washed and steam sterilised between clients, and every pedicure gets a new basin liner.
I think I reacted to gel. What now?
Stop having it, and see somebody who can look at your skin properly — that is not something a nail technician should be telling you about. We will write down exactly what was used so you can take it with you, and there is a manicure and a pedicure on the list that involve none of it.
Is there parking?
Street parking on 61st Street and the side streets. There is no lot. The station is a four-minute walk and most people come that way.
Are you open on Monday?
No. Tuesday to Friday from ten until half past seven, Saturday from nine until half past six, and Sunday from ten until five.
Can I bring my own polish?
Yes, at no charge and at no discount, because you are paying for the time rather than the bottle. We will not use a gel we cannot identify under our own lamp.
Do you sell gift cards?
At the counter, for any amount from twenty-five dollars or for a named service. They do not expire. We do not sell them through this website.
Something not here
Telephone, or use the form on the contact page. If it is a question about how long something takes, the price list has the answer against every line and the booking form will do the arithmetic for a combination.
The length is worked out, not assumed. Every service on this site has a length against it, and every add-on adds its own minutes. The calendar adds them up before it looks for a slot, so the time you are offered is a time that actually fits what you asked for.
A pedicure needs a chair as well as a person. There are three pedicure chairs and six technicians. A pedicure needs a chair as well as a person, so it can be unavailable at a time when a manicure is not.
Six tables · three pedicure chairs · a published price for everything
Book an appointment
Pick the service and any add-ons and the calendar adds up the minutes before it looks for a slot, so the times you are offered are times that actually fit what you asked for. A pedicure also needs one of the three chairs, and if none is free at four o'clock on a Saturday it will say so rather than book you in and hope.
