10 finishes · all painted on loose tips

Finishes and colours

What each of these actually is, what it does to the length of the appointment, and roughly how long it wears. Every swatch on this page was painted on loose tips rather than on a hand.

  • Every swatch painted on loose tips, not on a model
  • Chrome and cat-eye only work over gel
  • A hand-painted smile line, never a sticker or a guide

Every finish here was painted on loose tips. Every finish in the lookbook was painted on loose tips rather than on a hand, so what you are choosing is the finish and not somebody's hands. Nothing on this website is a client.

What each one is

French

As long as whatever it is painted on

A smile line hand-painted rather than stamped with a guide, which is why it costs twelve dollars and takes ten minutes. Any colour: the white one is the classic, and the most-asked-for line in this shop for the last two years has been a soft milky beige.

Chrome

Two to three weeks over gel

A powder rubbed into a cured top coat until it goes mirrored, then sealed. It only works over gel, it shows every ridge underneath, and it is the finish that most rewards the extra ten minutes of prep it takes.

Ombre

Two to three weeks over gel

A gradient blended wet with a sponge, usually pale at the base to strong at the tip or the other way round. Grows out more forgivingly than a hard line, which is why people with three-week gaps between appointments keep coming back to it.

Minimal

Two to three weeks over gel

A sheer milky base with one fine line, or nothing at all but a very good clear. The hardest of these to do well, because there is nowhere for a wobbly cuticle line to hide.

Cat eye

Two to three weeks over gel

Magnetic particles pulled into a band while the colour is still wet, then cured. The band moves when the light moves. It has to be done one nail at a time, which is what the ten minutes buys.

Matte

Two weeks over gel

A matte top coat instead of a gloss. It shows fingerprints and hand cream more than gloss does, and it is the one finish we will warn you about before you choose it in July.

Glazed

Two to three weeks over gel

An iridescent pearl over a warm nude — the finish everybody started asking for in 2023 and has not stopped. Subtle in daylight, obvious under a lamp.

Deep and seasonal

Two to three weeks over gel

Plum, oxblood, chestnut, burnt clay, dark olive. Dark colours stain a natural nail slightly if they are worn back to back for months, which is a real thing and not a reason to avoid them — it lifts in a fortnight.

Red

Two to three weeks over gel

Its own category because it is asked for by name more than every other colour combined. Nine reds on the swatch rack, from a blue-toned pillar box to a brown-toned brick.

Jade and green

Two to three weeks over gel

Pale jade with a gold fleck, sage, and a deep bottle green. The colour of the tiles in the pedicure room, which is not a coincidence.

What a finish adds to the appointment

A finish is an add-on to whatever you are having, and it adds minutes as well as money.

Add-ons. Each one adds its own minutes to the appointment as well as its own price, and the calendar adds them up before it looks for a slot.

What the calendar does with that

  • Gel manicure1 hour$55
  • Chrome or cat-eye finish+ 10 minutes+ $14
  • Your appointment1 hour 10 minutes$69

The calendar looks for a 1 hour 10 minutes window, not an hour. That is the whole difference between this booking form and one that offers everybody the same slot.

Six tables · three pedicure chairs · a published price for everything

Book an appointment

Pick the service and any add-ons and the calendar adds up the minutes before it looks for a slot, so the times you are offered are times that actually fit what you asked for. A pedicure also needs one of the three chairs, and if none is free at four o'clock on a Saturday it will say so rather than book you in and hope.
