Hard gel extensions

Length built in thin cured layers rather than in a bead. Lighter on the nail than acrylic, more flexible, and it does not fill the room with a smell.

  • 1 hour 45 minutes at the table, which is what the calendar reserves
  • Typically wants seeing again in two to three weeks
  • One price, whatever shape and whatever length

Why it takes longer

Because it is built and cured in layers rather than shaped once. That is where the extra time in the appointment goes, and it is also why the finished set flexes with your nail instead of against it.

It cannot be soaked off

Hard gel does not dissolve. It is filed off, carefully, which is why the removal on the price list takes as long as it does. If that sounds like a disadvantage, it is the same property that stops it lifting: nothing that dissolves in half an hour is going to survive a month of washing up.

The smell

Acrylic has one. It is not dangerous and the extraction on every table takes most of it away, but some people cannot sit with it, and some people cannot sit next to it. Hard gel has essentially none, and for a fair number of our regulars that is the entire reason they are on it.

Fills at about three weeks

Slightly longer than acrylic, mostly because it is lighter. Past about five weeks the set has travelled and a fill is usually the wrong appointment — you will be told that, with the price difference, before anything starts.

Who does it

Two of the six people here build extensions, and the calendar will only offer you their working hours for this service. That is not a queue-management trick; it is that a full set is not something to hand to somebody who does one a month.

What is in the appointment

The same idea in hard gel: lighter on the nail, more flexible, and it does not have the smell acrylic has. It takes longer because it is built and cured in thinner layers, and it cannot be soaked off — it is filed off.

The calendar looks for a 2 hours 20 minutes window, not an hour. That is the whole difference between this booking form and one that offers everybody the same slot.

Before you book this

The length is worked out, not assumed. Every service on this site has a length against it, and every add-on adds its own minutes. The calendar adds them up before it looks for a slot, so the time you are offered is a time that actually fits what you asked for.

Everything here has a cadence. Most services have a cadence — a gel manicure at two to three weeks, a fill at two to three, a pedicure at four. We will offer you the date before you leave, and if you would rather not take one then, the reminder comes by e-mail when it is due.

There are nails we will not work on. There are nails we will not work on, and there is a page that lists them. Being told no at the beginning of an appointment is better than being told nothing and finding out in a fortnight.

How long everything here lasts

Aftercare, and the one thing nobody does

Six tables · three pedicure chairs · a published price for everything

Book an appointment

Pick the service and any add-ons and the calendar adds up the minutes before it looks for a slot, so the times you are offered are times that actually fit what you asked for. A pedicure also needs one of the three chairs, and if none is free at four o'clock on a Saturday it will say so rather than book you in and hope.
